The Global Geothermal Alliance had met last year at a summit organized by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. At the Paris conference this week, the alliance pushed for the development and use of geothermal energy which produces so much less carbon than fossil fuels such as oil and coal. Ninety countries in the world have geothermal resources but only 24 use them. The Philippines is today one of the leading users of geothermal energy, second only to the United States. [full text]
